I was scrolling down Instagram this morning and came across a picture of this beautiful woman, celebrating her 35th birthday. What even made her more radiant was her baby bump she put on display. This gorgeous woman is pregnant for the second time, in less than two years; and I couldn’t help but remember, the times she earnestly desired children from God. She was married for 10 years, before getting pregnant with her first child.

Joy filled my heart and I was all smiles, thinking about how good our God is. Within those 10 years, I can imagine that she cried, fasted, prayed, tried all she could medically, but it was not yet the time for her to have children. Still, God knew that kids were a part of her future. He knew that one day, she would hear the voice of her little one say—mama! to her; even if she could not see it, He had everything already mapped out.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.”
The opposite of faith isn’t fear, but a lack of trust. Lack of trust in God, doubting if He is really all that and a bag of chips! Your circumstance seems more real than this invisible God, everyone is saying for you to put all your hope in. Your faith is tested and tried; your anxiety is on a hundred, with you wondering if anything is ever going to change. I have been there; during difficult times in my life, times when I couldn’t change the situation on my own, and had no one else to depend on, other than God. Those where the times, my faith grew stronger, because I had no other choice than to put my trust in Him and he came through for me, time and time and again.
Sometimes in other for you to build your faith and trust in God, you have to come to the end of yourself, knowing that no one can deliver you from your circumstance except God. And that is when He swoops in and does his thing.
I am reminded of this scripture found in 2 Corinthians 1:8-11—“We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned only to rely on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.”
Paul and his friends here were faced with hardship, and they came to the end of themselves and figured that they could not deliver themselves from whatever situation they were facing. As a result, they decided to rely on God. God already knows the end from the beginning, he knows how your story ends, he knows all the twists and turns, and wants you to trust Him to take you on the crazy ride.
“While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.” Hebrews 5:7
While Jesus was here on earth, he also came to the end of himself where he could not deliver himself from the death of the cross. He had to put his trust in God, who he believed would raise him up from the dead.
I like to see it this way: Jesus had always been with God from the beginning, and had witnessed how God came through for people over the centuries. When it was his turn to now trust God, he pulled from all those experiences he had with the Father, and believed that if God could do it for all the people he had done it for in the past, he wasn’t going to be an exception.
Whatever the difficult situation you might be facing; is it a loss of a job? No money, no children, no spouse, no parents? Sickness, despair? Whatever it is, He said nothing can ever separate us from his love (Romans 8:38). And if nothing can separate us from His love, which is in Christ Jesus, we know that He will work everything together for our good to bring Himself glory (because God no Dey joke with his glory). This is why we should trust Him. So sit back, relax, praise Him, trust in Him, and whatever that thing is, believe that He is already working it out.
