5 Lessons We Can Learn From Their Encounter
Easter is open us and all the festivities would soon start, to mark the remembrance of what Christ did for humanity on the cross. Following this event which kicks off on Friday, we will highlight the pivotal moments in Jesus’s ministry, to bring even more spotlight to His sacrifice and all that He has done for us.

Jesus met with a Samaritan woman when he took a detour from a trip. She was surprised that a Jew would take his time off to speak with her. (This story can be found in John 4) From their encounter, I discovered five things we could learn from it and decided to share with you guys today. So here goes:
“Give me a drink”: the first thing Jesus asked of the woman when he met her was for water. In John 4:10, Jesus went ahead to tell the woman that if she knew who was asking for a drink, she would have asked him for living water. From this passage, we can deduce that when God asks you for something, it is because He has something better in store for you.
God also expects us to request things from him: according to John 4:10 as well, He wants us to ask Him for whatever we need, especially the deep stuff. Matthew 7:7 also confirms this passage, it says—“if you being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more your father, who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
When you have an encounter with God, he seeks to transform your entire life: After Jesus and the woman spoke for a little bit, he asked her to call her husband. He knew she had a live-in-lover, and wanted to deal with the woman’s relationship woes. She had gone through multiple husbands, and the one who she currently resided with wasn’t her spouse. If you’ve been married five times, maybe the issue isn’t the spouses, but you. Jesus did not only want to introduce himself to her as someone who could save her eternally; he also wanted to sort out the current issues she had.
God comes to you so that you can realize your purpose: It was no accident that Jesus decided to go through Samaria, to get to his destination. It was that woman’s time. She had a job to do for the kingdom of God, and Jesus wasn’t going to let religion, sin or whatever stop them from meeting each other. If you continue with the story, you will find out she went back to her village, to tell everyone about what Christ revealed to her. The people then came to have their own encounter with Him. So most times, its truly not about us, but the people attached to us.
God reveals the truth: in the same conversation, the woman was arguing with Jesus about where worship was going to take place. She was still waiting for a physical location to emerge at some point in her life, but in John 4:21, Jesus revealed to her that true worship was going to take place within each individual. There was coming a time, where people could worship God from whatever location they found themselves in because the Holy Spirit was going to be in every individual that believed. So when we have encounters with God, he carries truth with him. He dispels every lie, myth or fear. So there wouldn’t be any confusion.
These are the few lessons I discovered while studying the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. I hope they can become applicable to your life.
